Do you ever feel like you are making slow or, worst still, no progress?
Perhaps things are just not moving forward at the pace you had hoped.
Perhaps you thought more people would have bought into or, at least, sown into your vision by now.
Perhaps you had hoped that by now God would have supernaturally brought to pass the dream that, after all, He gave you.
If you are like me you will have been nodding in agreement to one or more of these scenarios. Often the road we have to travel to see a vision come to fulfilment will take us down side streets, lead us to dead ends and result in us hitting one too many pot holes.
So, why do things often not work out the way we thought they would?
Over my lifetime I have stepped out many times, full of faith and excitement, believing I had a God given dream that He would help me fulfil. Some of those dreams have sank beyond sight, some are yet to be fulfilled and some are being fulfilled … slowly.
Over recent weeks I have been reflecting on why things often don’t work out the way we thought they would? I don’t believe I have all the answers; I expect we won’t have these until we get to heaven.
That being said, here a few thoughts.
We interpret the vision God gives us through our limited understanding.
Whilst we may think we understand clearly what we believe God has spoken to us, more often than not our understanding of what God has spoken evolves over time. As we remain faithful, God reveals his ways, one step at a time.
God’s speed is not our speed.
We live in a fast paced world and we expect God to move at the pace we think He needs to move at, rather than adjusting our pace to His pace. A dream birthed and activated ahead of God’s time will ultimately fail.
Your vision is your priority: not the priority of others.
Regardless of how good you are at communicating the vision God had given you, most people will not connect with your vision with the same passion or commitment you have. They may be busy fulfilling their own dreams or just not interested, however we should not be discouraged but continue to pray that God will connect us to those He has already chosen to help us fulfil the vision He has given us.
Good wine takes time.
We all know that you cannot expect to produce sustainable, long term fruit without first taking time to identify the ground that will produce the best crop. Similarly you cannot expect to produce good wine before it spends years in the maturing process.
Let’s hold fast to the vision God has given us.
Let’s not be discouraged that our dream has not come pass as yet.
Let’s not be disappointed that people have not bought into our dream with their time or their finances.
Stay faith filled.
In God’s time, in God’s way, He will bring it to pass.
Blessings,
Tommy Stewart
